Welcome to Room 802!

Junior High Literature and Religion

My name is Amanda Herrera. This is my 2nd year at OLMM. I teach 7th and 8th grade Literature and 8th Grade Religion. My goal this year is to help all students succeed academically, socially, and spiritually. I will be working with students to help strengthen their reading and comprehension skills as well as providing them with ways to deepen their Catholic faith. I am very excited for this year!

This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Common Core Reading Standards for 7th and 8th grade. Both classes will cover genres including Non-Fiction, Fiction, Poetry, and Drama. Eight Grade will be reading Divergent by Veronica Roth, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, and Shakespeare Made Easy: Romeo and Juliet. Seventh Grade will be reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio, The Giver by Lois Lowry, and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.

In this course, students will analyze Bible Scriptures, recognize the Ten Commandments and Corporal/Spiritual Works of Mercy as guidelines for living a good life, and identify major periods in the Bible and in the history of the Catholic Church.
